Hi! My name’s Jessica and I am in my first year of law. I have really enjoyed my participation in InnSoc events this year such as the Speed Moots. I believe Inns is a great resource in exploring the practice of law and is overlooked as simply being for aspiring barristers.
I have three aims this year as vice president:
- To raise the visibility of Inns on campus and social media
- To develop and increase the events provided
- To build on the relationship of Inns with the Law school and other societies
I’ve noticed that the Inns has been very quiet this year. A quick stalk of social media has shown me that Inns has had more events in previous years. I think it is important that despite the merger of LawSoc and Inns, that Inns does not lose its identity. I would like to expand the number of the events provided by Inns and raise the awareness of such events, like that of the cross-examination event, as they give important insights into law as a career as well as a subject.
I would make a greater use of social media, especially Facebook in publicising such events as I have found the LawSoc Facebook page very useful in this manner and so I would like to introduce it to Inns. I also would to expand the use of the website and ensure that a method is found to keep it up-to-date.
I believe that the relationship between Inns and LawSoc as well as the Law School could be further developed so that more events could be hosted, but also to coordinate such events. I would create a master list of events, such as those hosted by faulty members, that is easily accessible for members.
As vice president of Inns, I would to build on the work of the society in helping aspiring barristers to achieve their aims. I am hardworking and determined yet easy to get on with. I work well in team environments and so I will ensure achieve our common aims. I’d be honoured to have your vote as vice president.
